Description
Do your students panic when you assign a creative writing project? This Creative Writing Bundle includes ten no-fear Creative Writing Lessons. You will save 20% by purchasing this bundle rather than buying each resource separately.
Four of the lessons are Google Drive Digital resources. Your students can do their work online and go paperless.
I am an educator with over 35 years of classroom experience. I have taught English, journalism, and creative writing to students in grades 7-12, and I have developed my resources based on lessons that were successful with my students. I have also created lessons based on my personal writing experience. You will find my books here.
All of the lessons and exercises in this bundle have been tested with hundreds of students over my 35-year teaching career. My students enjoyed the writing lessons, and many of them still remember the stories they wrote while in my creative writing class.
I used these lessons in the following sequence, but it really does not matter. You can pick and choose and use them as you wish.
I began with Show, Don’t Tell to get students used to writing action and dialogue.
There are two Show, Don't Tell activities in this bundle.
Then it was time to Create a Story Plan. This lesson helps students create a sketch to use for planning purposes. Your students can work the steps in any order. In fact, some people find it easier to write the ending of the story first, and then go back and sketch out the characters and the plot. Included is a three-page graphic organizer for students to use when writing their story plans.
If you want your students’ stories to be mysteries, now would be the time to use the Scenarios to Plot a Mystery Story resource.
Next, we discussed the characters that would appear in their stories. I assigned the Creating Characters Resource, and they filled out a profile for each character they planned to create.
When they were ready to plot their stories, they worked on Using 3x5 Cards to Set Up Scenes (FREE) so that they could move the scenes around as needed. By the time they were finished with these lessons, they were ready to write the first drafts of their stories.
The remaining resources in this bundle can be taught at any time.
The Gratitude Booklet Creative Writing Project (FREE) is a good one to use around the holidays. The gratitude booklet that students create would make a great gift for them to give a family member. It also works well to use this project in late April or early May and use it for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gifts.
The Newspaper Novel Writing Project is a great lesson to use after the students finish reading an assigned novel. They will enjoy it more than writing an ordinary book report, and they will practice writing news stories, editorials, and advertisements.
The Nursery Rhyme Newspaper Creative Writing Activity is one that my students loved. They will write news stories based on favorite children’s nursery rhymes.
