Description

If you are looking for the Digital version of the Beginning the Year resource for Google Slides (including Question of the Day, Focus Question, and a PreK Class book!) click here.

Do you use Creative Curriculum’s Teaching Strategies Gold in your classroom? After using it for the past 10 years, I have found each year, as I approached a new curriculum, I was scrambling to come up with the materials I would need for each unit. With this set, you won’t have to! Utilizing this set in your classroom, you will have all of the materials necessary to create an Anchor Chart reflecting the “Beginning the Year” unit, as well as updated questions from "The First 6 Weeks." This downloadable set includes the TSG Anchor Chart topics of:

- What names do we need to know at school?

- What should we do if we get sad or scared at school?

- What are our rules?

* updated to include proper mask wear, hand washing and social distancing.

- When do things happen at school?

- Who works at our school?

- How do we make and keep friends? How can we be part of a group?

- What sounds do we hear at school?

Each topic features child-friendly picture cards to correspond with each topic, prompting active teacher-student discussion and interaction. Exploring each topic, students can talk about their feelings and begin to develop social-emotional skills that will last them a lifetime. Through this “Beginning the Year” unit, students will explore school-appropriate behaviors, discuss rules, ask questions about daily activities and classroom schedules, meet and become familiar who work in a school, and allay any fears or worries they might have about meeting new people and making new friends.

To best use this set, print, laminate, and cut. I prefer to add a small magnet piece to the back of each item, so that I can use it with my students on our white board. The pictures used in this set are surrounded by a black square, and are the perfect size for young children to utilize themselves, with guidance. While this set is designed around the TSG curriculum, the opportunities for use are endless!

In addition, this set includes:

  • 4 versions of Questions of the Day - one set with text only, one set with visual supports, one set with Touch Spots, and one set to reflect questions from the First 6 Weeks
  • Clickable links to help support the beginning of the year transition, as well as 3 pages of suggested books
  • ideas to celebrate learning: bilingual "All About Me" class book and letters home, 3 versions
  • "Who Works in Our School?" class book - take photos of staff members at your school and help students build their awareness of their environment
  • Visual prompts for students to discuss how to make and keep friends at school
  • Guides for properly and safely wearing a mask at school
