Description
This is a project that I used with upper elementary and middle school students to assess their understanding of scale, geometry, measurement and algebra.
Included in this project are the following documents:
1. Introduction to project
2. Determining average room sizes
3. Area calculations
4. Calculating floor cost
5. Calculating paint cost
6. Calculating fence cost
7. Budget calculations
8. Project follow up questions
EXTRA: Room scale calculations for extra practice. This was not a requirement of the project, but I had some of the students that struggled with scale complete this step.
This could be modified to be a more student-guided research about what kind of flooring, paint, and fencing will be used.
For the flooring choices, I created a choice board using free samples obtained from big box stores. If you would like more information about this teacher-made material, please email me!
