What educators are saying

A great culminating project for the end of the year! It was easy to use to measure the understanding of GRAPES in my classroom. I was able to assess my students' understanding of civilizations as they applied their knowledge to a fun project.

Description

This Create a Civilization Project will be a hit with your students and help them understand the components that make up a civilization. In this engaging activity, students will create a civilization and prepare a Google Slideshow to highlight different aspects of their civilization. This resource includes four different versions of the assignment to help you find the perfect for your students!

This resource includes the following:

  • Teacher Guide (PDF)
  • Civilizations Highlights Project (quick version; Google Slideshow with 9 slides)
  • Civilization Profile Packet (12-page printable PDF)
  • Civilization Profile Packet (100% editable Google Doc)
  • Civilization Profile Project: Google Slideshow (full version; editable Google Slideshow with 19 slides)
  • Rubric (PDF + Google Doc)

This project is aligned to the GRAPES Social Studies acronym, which includes geography, religion, achievements, politics, economy, and society. You can have your students present their civilizations if desired.

This project can be done at any time of the year in an Ancient Civilizations or World History class. However, it can be especially helpful at the beginning of the year after you have introduced civilization to your students, or at the end of the year as a final review. It could also be used in conjunction with other units, such as Mesopotamia.
