About Syllable Count and Clip Set #2:

• These syllable count and clip cards are perfect for small groups, morning bins, word work, or an independent center activity throughout the school year.
• These are a great early literacy activity for emergent readers to practice phonological awareness skills.

This Resource Includes:

• 24 count and clip picture cards
• 1, 2, 3, and 4 syllable basket labels (if sorting the cards into piles or bins)
• 2 recording sheets (optional -- can copy them front/back if using the entire set as 1 activity -- or you can split the cards in half and use 12 at a time)
• Small directions cards and cover cards for the task card deck

Preparation:

• Print, cut, and laminate the picture clip cards.
• Print recording sheets if using.
• Gather clips or clothespins, as well as baskets if you want children to sort the cards.

How to play:

• Mix up picture clip cards.
• Label a basket or container with each of the syllable signs (1, 2, 3, 4).
• Have children place a clip on the correct number of syllables for each card. Then they will place the card in the corresponding bucket or basket.
• For example, if they pick up the card with fan on it, they might clap the word and find that it has 1 syllable. They will place a clip on the 1 and then place it in the 1 syllable bucket.
• If they are using the recording sheet, they would then find fan and color in the 1 beside it.

Variations:

• This can be played without the recording sheet if you just want children to practice sorting and clipping the words and counting/clapping the syllables.
• This can also be split in half and played with just 1 recording sheet and 12 cards if 24 is too much at once for your students.

Printing Directions:

• Once your payment is processed, this PDF will be available to download.
• Be sure to change your printer settings to fit to page to ensure no part of the document is cut off. This usually works by selecting "fit to printable area."
