Description

Elfaba and Glenda anyone? This low prep lesson (50 pages) about costume design is focused on characters of Wicked, the Broadway musical which gives the students an opportunity for differentiation to be costume designers as well as study it. The product is broken in to two class periods, although it could be used for a one-day exploration of the subject. This is a super lesson for a substitute to teach!

Gifted students in grade 9 may enjoy this, too! However, it was created for middle school students.

How Should I Use This in My Classroom? If it were me, I'd study the musical of Wicked first and then design costumes for it. You can find the musical unit here: .

Students will learn about:

  • Letter to Teacher
  • Warm-ups (2)
  • The History of Costume Design
  • The Rationale for Teaching Costume Design
  • Teacher's Script--what I say and how I say it!
  • Costumes Notes for Students
  • The History of Costumes with a Teacher's Script
  • Procedure
  • Materials List
  • Source & Video Link List
  • Two Warm-Ups—Engaging and Creative
  • Wicked, the Musical Character List
