What educators are saying

I used your slideshow to teach students about 5.G.A.1. It saved me a bunch of time as I didn't have to create my own. Perfect!
This was a great resource to introduce coordinate planes to my class. They were engaged and understood the content.

Description

Introduce Coordinate Planes - also called Coordinate Grids with this easy to follow PowerPoint presentation that follows a gradual release method of teaching. It gives your students a great visual as you walk through your introduction. This product is just for quadrant I.

What Does This Include?

This PowerPoint introduces:

- coordinate plane

- x-axis

- y-axis

- origin

- ordered pairs

- x-coordinate

- y-coordinate

What Is The Format?

This is a PowerPoint presentation. Throughout the PowerPoint the vocabulary is highlighted. It also has embedded areas for you to have students stop and share thinking with a partner/class and places for the class to stop and practice the skill on the included practice grid worksheet. This is truly a mini-lesson built around the idea of gradual release. The included practice grid worksheet is open-ended and can be used as part of the lesson, as an exit ticket, as an assignment, an assessment, or more! Just give the students ordered pairs and have them plot their points.

Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate).
