Learning Objective

Students will know vocabulary for the coordinate plane.

Description

Plotting points is a skill that doesn't go away, and students need a visual reminder! This set of printable posters helps by providing visuals and reminders of important coordinate plane vocabulary. There are several options to choose from.

You can print in black & white on your favorite colored paper or in color! There are a couple different color options to choose from. The axes color coordinate with the coordinate pairs to help reinforce which number is which in the ordered pair.

You can also choose to print only the 1st quadrant (positive only) or all four quadrants. So, whether your students are just starting out with graphing or are ready to move on to negatives, this set has the reference posters that you need.

These posters can be printed on card stock from your own printer, or can be printed as large as 18" x 24" for middle school math anchor charts.

Every math classroom needs a coordinate plane displayed for reference! Help your students by hanging these up during your Coordinate Geometry unit (or all year long)!

Click on the preview to see all of the posters.

Use a pair of perpendicular number lines, called axes, to define a coordinate system, with the intersection of the lines (the origin) arranged to coincide with the 0 on each line and a given point in the plane located by using an ordered pair of numbers, called its coordinates. Understand that the first number indicates how far to travel from the origin in the direction of one axis, and the second number indicates how far to travel in the direction of the second axis, with the convention that the names of the two axes and the coordinates correspond (e.g., 𝘹-axis and 𝘹-coordinate, 𝘺-axis and 𝘺-coordinate).
Represent real world and mathematical problems by graphing points in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane, and interpret coordinate values of points in the context of the situation.
Describe the effect of dilations, translations, rotations, and reflections on two-dimensional figures using coordinates.
Understand a rational number as a point on the number line. Extend number line diagrams and coordinate axes familiar from previous grades to represent points on the line and in the plane with negative number coordinates.
Understand signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants of the coordinate plane; recognize that when two ordered pairs differ only by signs, the locations of the points are related by reflections across one or both axes.
