This deck of Boom Cards™ targets taking turns in conversations using real photographs, relatable situations, and leveled practice! Your students working on pragmatic language goals will be able to practice making comments and asking questions in functional scenarios.

This resource helps students understand using comments and questions that are appropriate to the audience (conversational partner), time, and situation.

The deck is broken up into sections so your students can progress their skills across multiple sessions:

✅ A MINI-LESSON (one card) provides an overview of the concept, including questions to ask yourself when determining the suitability of a comment or question

✅ 20 cards of MULTIPLE CHOICE PRACTICE in which the student reads a comment or question, and identifies (from a field of 4 choices) the person/situation that would be appropriate to say it.

✅ 20 cards of FILL-IN-THE-BLANK PRACTICE in which the student reads a scenario, determines what an appropriate comment or question would be, and types it in the box.

This activity goes beyond basic pragmatic language understanding and helps students think critically about what to say in specific environments and situations. It includes:

• TEACHING and PRACTICE components to support new learning
• Real PHOTOGRAPHS to appeal to older students
• Functional SOCIAL SCENARIOS that students can relate to

The deck will advance your students' conversational skills by helping them apply their pragmatic knowledge in multiple ways. Use this deck for a variety of skill levels to practice social skills in multi-dimensional activities!
