Description
Teaching students to close read is crucial to their reading comprehension of both nonfiction and fiction texts. These reading comprehension crafts are a fresh, hands on and unique way students can visually see the close reading strategy broken down for them. It is an alternative to reading response that will help you to reach all learners in your classroom.
These reading crafts require little to no prep, and the only materials needed are scissors and glue.
WHAT’S INCLUDED:
3 Close Reading Crafts:
- Close Reading Thinking Cap Book: Students do 3 readings of the same text, filling in each of the 3 pages of their thinking cap while reading. Each page comes in 3 different templates that include a nonfiction graphic organizers option, fiction graphic organizers option, or blank inside option.
- Close Reading Tab Books: These are similar to the craft above, coming in multiple options (fiction, nonfiction, or generic), but in a different format. They come in a small (2/page) or full page version as well.
- Zooming in Lift the Flap: This is a simple craft where students “zoom in” closer and closer each read. Below each flap is blank for students to record their information.
