What educators are saying
My students liked being able to compose with pizza. I did it as a whole group activity as some of the prompts were difficult for my ELL students.
Description
This worksheet is a great, fun way to introduce sixteenth notes, review rhythmic values, and practice composition!
Upper elementary students brainstorm pizza toppings that have 1, 2, and 4 syllables to correspond with quarter, eighth, and sixteenth notes. (Examples: sauce, mushrooms, pepperoni). Then, students use their topping list to write their own 4 measure composition.
You can use this as an assessment (both writing and performance), and have students share their compositions with one another.
