Description

This unit is packed with lessons, centers, printables and lots of easy to make hands-on activities that focus on composing numbers (1-10 and 10-20). Simply add simple math manipulatives (or materials from around your house including buttons and beads) and you will have ready to use activities. It would be beneficial to add double-sided counters (you can make these by painting white beans if you don't have any) for use with many of the activities.

Here's what's included:

- 1 week detailed lesson plans (whole group, small group and extension ideas)

- Math Wall posters -> use these to introduce concept to your class and post on your math wall/pocket chart

- I Can Make It -> explore composing numbers 3-10 by filling in circles with 2 different colors

- I Can Make It (Student Booklets) -> students glue colored construction paper to compose various numbers

- Show Me the Number! (Student Booklets) -> students use 5- and 10-frames to complete the math sentences and compose various numbers

- Composing Numbers Mats -> use these mats along with loose parts as a hands-on activity to solve the number sentences

- Using 5- and 10-frames -> add loose parts (i.e. buttons, beads, jewels, etc.) to explore using 5- and 10-frames to solve number sentences

- Making 5 and Making 10 -> roll the die and explore ways to compose 5 and 10

- Shake and Spill -> shake and spill the double-sided counters and record your findings

- Roll it, Compose it -> roll the die and compose numbers using a 5-frame and 10-frame

- In My Hand -> a fun game for whole group, small group or partners
