Complete Wonderland and Looking-Glass Comprehension and Logic Unit Combo

This is my complete combo for both the "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking Glass, and What Alice Found There" books. It has chapter comprehension worksheets for both books. This also includes my logic unit study which teaches a basic introduction to formal logic as well as analyzes a lot of the hidden logic lessons within the first Alice book.

Logic Unit Description:

This is a collection of worksheets and tests that work for a month long introduction to formal logic and fallacies. There are 7 worksheets introducing formal logic with syllogisms and correct use of Venn diagrams in determining validity. Then there are 11 worksheets on logical fallacies. Finally there are two tests and an answer key.

The formal logic section uses ideas from the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland book in the examples. The logical fallacy section features passages from the book illustrating each fallacy. Lewis Carroll was a master logician and loved to play with logic within his books. Thus, introductory training in logic helps a reader to more fully appreciate his works.

This unit takes me a month to teach. I have done this with Gifted 5th grade and middle school classes.

Comprehension Question Worksheet Description:

Here is a set of worksheets with high level, short answer, comprehension questions for both books by Lewis Carroll. Each chapter has a worksheet of 5 to 7 questions. In addition, there are a set of worksheets offering a side by side comparison of every one of the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland poems with the original poems, by other authors, upon which Carroll based them. Each of these worksheets asks a couple comprehension and comparison questions about each pair of poems. Also included is a double-sided character information worksheet which can be printed off for each major character in each of the books. The character worksheet is to be filled out by the students as they go through the process of reading the book. It asks for quotes from the story and interpretations of what those quotes tell the student about the character. Finally, there is an essay prompt for each book that can be used a final writing assignment after the book is completed. Answer keys are included for the comprehension questions. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland is a Common Core exemplar text.
