39 SLIDE POWERPOINT LESSON

Though it is vital that you go through the rules for your classroom, it can be very boring for your students because they have done it in many classes and often feel like they know everything already. They are primed to tune out. My solution to this is to create a fun PowerPoint that clearly addresses all the 20 rules and 6 consequences, but does it in a way that is engaging for the students. Even if they know the rules, this way of presenting them will still generate an interest to participate and pay attention.

The PowerPoint is designed so that students have to guess which rule or consequence is being outlined in each slide. They will be shown a clue (in the form of animated clip art) that will be a hint at the rule or consequence. If they think they know the answer, they will have to raise their hands and wait to be chosen before describing which rule or consequence is being depicted. Students will be excited because most of them will know the answers.

4 PAGE STUDENT WORKSHEET TO ACCOMPANY THE POWERPOINT LESSON

As they go through the PowerPoint, students will fill in their Classroom Rules, Procedures and Consequences Worksheet so that they have a copy of the rules in their notebook. The worksheet keeps students on task, helps them follow along and improves retention. The final activity in the worksheet is a crossword puzzle that gets students to review what they have learned about the rules and consequences.
