Comparison texts : Oranges and 7th grade by Gary Soto

This packet includes the poem "Oranges" and the short story "7th grade", both by Gary Soto. Students will read both texts and make comparisons. The poem "Oranges" is broken down into multiple sections to allow students to analyze the plot of the poem. Questions are used to help guide the students in their work. A worksheet is also included which allows students to identify the figurative language within the poem. The short story 7th grade is followed by multiple choice questions and short answers which reinforce plot. Finally, a Text Dependent Response is included which forces students to look at both writings and make comparisons. It also has students analyze similarities between characters in each text.
