What educators are saying

My students loved this activity. We completed the comparing fractions together. Great resource to see fractions in action.

Description

Perfect for Super Bowl, NFL Day, or a Football theme! They grab a partner, create a paper football, and make a goal with their fingers! Bam! You have a fun indoor football game!

Students take turns between shooting field goals and being the football field goal . They record the amount of field goals they make and the amount of field goals they miss in fraction form. Then they compare the results of the different rounds! What a great way to get kiddos pumped up and excited about using fractions in a real world way!

I have included two different recording sheets for comparing fractions. One requires students to use a tape or strip diagram and the other page requires students to create a number line.

Included:

Game directions and pictures

Recording Sheet

Comparing Fractions Recording sheet with fraction strips (tape diagrams)

Comparing Fractions Recording sheet with number lines

Helpful Hint: I call fraction bars the “KitKat Model” because it looks like a Kit Kat Bar. It is easy for students to compare fractions with bars directly over one another.

Variations:

Have students compare their “scores” with their partner.

Play outside using a real football!
