Description
This is a really fun discussion and research activities for small groups in History or Social Studies classes of any age Middle School or High School. This is a discussion, seminar, and activity for students to conduct in small groups. They get to find the economic and social importance of pop culture in United States History between now and 1950-1960, they can choose the year, or you can. No prep needed, but access to the internet is helpful for finding information. You can have groups complete one sheet, or the entire packet, depending on your needs and time available.
- First 10 minutes - enjoy a conversation of your favorite parts of pop culture
- Pop culture groups: MUSIC, SPORTS, CARS, MOVIES, and MISC (what did I miss, students can create additional groups based on their interests?)
- Next 10 minutes - Then and now research to find the most significant acts, stars, and unique traits of this aspect of pop culture.
Each category is printed on a page, for all group members to write their names, and write their responses. My students really enjoy this discussion and get to express themselves, while learning something about historical pop culture in the United Styates.
