Description

These 3 short NO-PREP lessons will help your students prepare for CCSS.ELA.RI.7.2: Determine two or more central ideas in a text and analyze their development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text. This Common Core practice follows an "I do," "we do," "you do" model and is part of my Continuous Improvement Model (CIM) series.

What is a CIM? The acronym “CIM” stands for “Continuous Improvement Model.” It is one name for the research-based strategy that follows the “I do,” “we do,” “you do,” teaching model. In this resource, there are 3 lessons. Lesson 1 is a teacher-modeled lesson. Lesson 2 is a collaborative lesson where the teacher leads the class. The students complete lesson 3 independently. This resource is, in and of itself, a scaffolding tool. It is designed to help students master standards in a gradual manner.

In this resource are 7 questions related to the RI.2 standard (Key Ideas and Details).

NOTE: This resource also addresses LAFS.7.RI.1.2 because of how Florida revised their standards.

Why should you purchase this resource?

- NO PREP

- Common Core Aligned

- Unique, targeted standard practice

The texts in this resource are appropriate for 7th graders, according to Lexile’s® text complexity bands. Note: Lexile® is not affiliated with and does not endorse this resource.

Lesson 1: This lesson uses an adapted excerpt from Woodrow Wilson’s First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1913 and has an approximate Lexile® 1000-1100.

Lesson 2: This lesson uses an adapted excerpt from Herbert Hoover’s Inaugural Address, March 4, 1929 and has an approximate Lexile® 1000-1100.

Lesson 3: This lesson uses an adapted excerpt from Franklin D. Roosevelt’s First Inaugural Address, March 4, 1933 and has an approximate Lexile® 1000-1100.

In this CIM, the 3 mini-lessons are designed to take under 10 minutes each. They can be done together on a single day (although that is NOT the intent of the product) or on 3-5 separate days, as you may find you have to use 2 days for either the first or second lesson - or both, depending on your students.

This resource is NOT intended to be initial instruction on this standard/concept. This is designed as a supplemental resource for practice/reteaching/etc.

The questions can be used as either multiple choice or short/extended response. These questions are intended for in-class instruction and NOT intended for homework, summative/formal assessment, or portfolio/extended work. The questions are not exhaustive of those that could be asked for this standard, but they are a good place to start.

This product is a .zip with 4 separate files: the teacher version (with script), student version without answer choices (open-response), student version without answer choices with writing lines provided (open-response), and student version with answer choices (multiple-choice). Student versions may be copied and distributed as necessary for purchasing teacher's classes.

The teacher pages include the questions for display (both with and without answer choices), the excerpts for display, and the teacher script. They also include suggestions for differentiation.
