What educators are saying

Great, fun, and engaging resource that was very helpful in teaching opinion writing to my 3rd grade students!
This was a great resource to use with my students with disabilities to prepare for upcoming state testing.

Description

Opinion Writing unit: This common core opinion writing teaches kids to begin to cite an article when writing an opinion piece. There are 4 prompts and week long activities to go with each prompt. I use this with my second graders and advanced first graders, but it is probably best suited to second and third grade.

The unit includes:

Opinion text posters featuring parts of an opinion piece

Four opinion prompts:
Do you think that video games are good for kids?
Do you think kids should wear uniforms to school?
Do you think kids should be allowed to bring pets to school?
Should kids be allowed to bring Pokémon cards to school?

Each prompt includes:
2 opinion mentor texts (showing both pro/con opinions)
Questions asking kids to identify author's opinion and reasons
Color coding page for text structure
Graphic organizer
Writing master
Homework cover sheet (if you choose to send for homework)
