Description

Many art teachers are wondering what implementation of The Common Core Learning Standards means for them. This PDF lists the six shifts in ELA and Math, and explains how it translates to the Visual Art curriculum.

This PDF file uses information provided by educational organizations in New York State that have begun to create guidelines for the Common Core in the Visual Arts. Although information on the slides comes from New York State sources, the information is for the national standards, so it applies to other states as well.

I printed these pages to use as posters in my room. After printing, I laminated them and posted them on my cabinet doors. Beneath the posters I added examples of what we we did in class that related to each shift, such as images of famous artwork we analyzed, projects we completed, images of books I read, and writing students did about art. When I got observed, my administrators could easily see how the Common Core was being used in my classroom.

I also added these pages to my lesson plan binder and my professional portfolio, to help break my lessons and project examples up into different categories.
