Description

So many young students aren't sure of what important information they should include when writing a report. I created this report template to give to students when they are researching a famous African-American for Black History Month.

The packet includes:
1- A 2 page list of famous African-Americans throughout history. I print out the page of names, cut them up, and put them in a paper bag. The students then choose a name. This ensures that no one will be researching the same person.
2- 1 Report Cover
3- Blank first page of the report with a line for the name of the person being researched, and picture box frame, and lines to write
4- Second Page of report with lines
5- First Page of report with Date of Birth, Date of Death, Childhood, Adulthood, and Why this person is famous page.
6- Letter to Parents explaining what is expected in the report.

The Common Core Standards addressed when students are researching and writing their report include:

1st Grade:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.1.2 Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.1.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects

2nd Grade:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.2.7 Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., read a number of books on a single topic to produce a report; record science observations).

3rd Grade:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.7 Conduct short research projects that build knowledge about a topic.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.3.8 Recall information from experiences or gather information from print and digital sources; take brief notes on sources and sort evidence into provided categories.

4th Grade:
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.4.7 Conduct short research projects that build knowledge through investigation of different aspects of a topic.
CCSS.ELA-Literacy.W.4.9 Draw evidence from literary or informational texts to support analysis, reflection, and research.
