What educators are saying

Perfect for teaching Colombian Exchange! My students liked moving around to the old world vs new world sides of the room. I had them model exchanging goods and they could see how the foods spread over the world. Easy prep too!
This is one of my favorite resources that I have purchased off of TPT. The students were engaged and wanted to do the activity multiple times. I had them line up on either side of the room to show the new world or the old world. It was a lot of fun. Thank you!

    Description

This Columbian Exchange Interactive Lesson includes several engaging resources that will help your students fully-understand the impact this event had on the world.

First, is an interactive sort activity, which has students working together to evaluate 24 items from either the New World or Old World. Students are given cards with items like pumpkins, chocolate, peppers, pineapple, etc and must figure out if each is an Old World or a New World good.

After determining where each item was from, students create cafeteria lunch menus based on Old World and New World food items. These can be shared with the class to determine how big an impact the Columbian Exchange had on people's everyday lives. You can also take things further and have students fully design restaurants on the theme as well.

There is also a Google Drive digital version of the activity with a "drag-and-drop" version of the Columbian Exchange goods page.

Next, is an in-depth PowerPoint, guided notes, and "flipped classroom" video to place the Columbian Exchange in context and ensure students understand the impact it had on the World.

Finally, a set of review questions helps students focus on the lessons' objectives. An answer key for each aspect of the lesson is included! This is a fantastic lesson overall and my students always love developing creative lunch menus from what they learned!

The "Bonus Download" includes the complete lesson plan with several ways the lesson can be completed based on your class's structure and includes video and Google links! Students can either move around the room, evaluate items at their desks, or move through stations.

You can click on each download in the bundle for a better preview of what is included in both.

    Thanks for looking!
