Description

Looking for a way to differentiate essay writing? Try using symbolism to help students remember the role of each paragraph and to organize their thoughts while prewriting.

Sometimes students need to hear and see the meaning and purpose of various paragraphs in different lights. Many struggling writers benefit from analogies and symbolic explanations. This color-coded essay graphic organizer serves the purpose of helping students remember the meaning behind each paragraph in a five-paragraph essay.

Five-paragraph essay have gotten a bad rap as of late because of the formulaic approach to writing, but struggling writers need structure. They need somewhere to begin. They want to know how many paragraphs they should write and what belongs in each paragraph because it is one less issue they have to worry about. If we support struggling writers with graphic organizers, their writing experience will be less frustrating overall.

Whether your students are beginning or intermediate middle or high school writers, struggling writers, or needing accommodations for an inclusion class, this graphic organizer will help them think about writing from a different angle.

Prewriting is important for all types of writing. The color-coded graphic organizer works for any analytical, expository, or argumentative essay. You can have them use the color-coded graphic organizer to help students plan for their own essay, or you can use it to help them analyze an example piece.

Included, you will find a partially editable PPT version and a secured PDF version of a graphic organizer for a five paragraph essay.

Because this is a color-coded graphic organizer, it should be printed...in color! :) If you don't want to print color-coded graphic organizers for an entire class, these are excellent for students who need assignment modifications or for differentiation purposes.

What's Included?

With purchase of this five paragraph essay graphic organizer, you will receive a secured PDF version and a fully editable PPT version. Each paragraph is connected with a color. For example: "The introduction is a bright aqua blue because it grabs the reader’s attention and gives the most important information right away. Your essay should be inviting, like a cool body of water on a hot summer’s day."
