We each grew up with parents who always talked about college and we always had the mindset that we were going to go to college.
As teachers, we all want our students to be successful. We want them to do well and go to college. To our amazement, when we first started teaching, we quickly learned that not every student has family members that encourage them to go to college or they do not believe that they will go to college when they grow up.
This did not sit well with us and from that day, we pledged that our students would leave our classrooms with a deep understanding of what college is and the mindset that they can go to college no matter what their situation or circumstances are.
This is our mission and we work hard to make learning about college fun. We use this great resource, wear class college shirts on Tuesday and overall make a big deal about college...and it works! Our students believe in themselves and we are proud to say many come back and visit us, so they can talk about their college experience (happy teacher dance)!
