Description

Cold War - Research Project with Rubric (15 Cold War Events) - This Cold War 7 page resource includes a research project for the major events and topics related to the Cold War. The resource requires students to complete research on a chosen event or topic from the Cold War in relation to the history and significance and then to create a display to show their research.

The resource includes a student handout that details the expectations of the project and how it can best be completed. As well, it contains a list of 15 different events or topics that can be researched from the Cold War, thereby allowing enough topics for a large class. Specific topics include: Cuban Missile Crisis, War in Vietnam, Space Race, Arms Race, etc. As well, the resource requires students to learn and be able to apply the following Cold War era terms: brinkmanship, detente, containment, expansionism, etc.

Next, the resource includes a research organizer for students (or small groups) to use when completing their research for their chosen event or topic from the Cold War. It contains boxes with titles of information for students to complete before they begin creating their project.

As well, the resource includes a marking rubric for the teacher to use when assessing the completed projects. The rubric is also a powerful tool to provide to students as they complete their projects and for use with self-assessment or peer assessment.

Finally, the resource includes a two page teacher guide that provides step-by-step instructions on how to carry out the Cold War Research Project. As well, it details opportunities for differentiation, online research sources for students and how the project can be used to enhance collaboration among students.

This is an excellent tool when learning about the Cold War and the specific Cold War events associated with the time period. It is an excellent resource for having your students collaborate, research and showing their understanding in creative and innovative ways. It will make a great addition to any Cold War unit of study!
