What educators are saying

I work with students with emotional and behavioral disabilities and the more interactive I can make a lesson, the more successful it will be. Thanks so much for your hard work!
I loved this resource. Usually I have to do things to modify the materials to fit my students'needs but this one was perfect just the way it was. I used this for a lesson on symbolism for my 7th and 8th grade ELL students. Thank you so much for creating this.

Description

A creative coat of arms project for your social studies classroom! With this activity, students create their own coat of arms based on their family. Using symbols of heraldry students design their coat of arms, create a paragraph or longer writing piece describing how it represents their family, and possibly share with the class. A great cross-curricular activity!

What's Included:

  • Student Packet- 6 pages of heraldry representation. Includes animals, lines, colors, and shield design. The packet includes examples and meanings of each item.
  • Shield Templates- 26 Shield Templates. 13 smaller sizes with space for written descriptions explaining the design. 13 full size with no space for a written description.
  • Description Page- Full page for students to describe their coat of arms. This could be used with the full-size shield that do not have space for a written description.
  • Rubric- Rubric to assess the completed project.

This Coat of Arms Project is a great way to start a Middle Ages unit, begin the school year with a get to know you activity, or an end of year project to complete during state testing.
