What educators are saying

This was a great resource for my students that needed more practice and reinforcement with these spelling patterns. Thank you!
This product was a huge time saver. It was easy to prep and the kids were very engaged in the activities.

Description

Your first grade and second grade students explore text for facts and opinions. They learn to examine the text more carefully for soft c and soft g words after multiple fluent readings. Perfect for small group guided reading time, as there are 3 differentiated leveled passages.

Decodable reader in 2 formats helps students needing more fluency practice before moving on to the close reading activities. Read the enlarged pages together as a group, and then give individual students the one-page foldable booklet to reread at home.

Reading comprehension is achieved with students answering text-dependent questions and drawing illustrated details from the passages. Supportive printables included that help you introduce the meaning of fact and opinion and sorted grade-level phonics words. Practice isolated phonics with the spin-and-read game for soft c and soft g words.

Do your students read at any of these grade levels?

Level 1 (L1) = beginning to middle of 1st grade

Level 2 (L2) = middle to end of 1st grade

Level 3 (L3) = 2nd-3rd grade at minimum

If your students reading levels range between first and third grade, this resource may be a good fit for you!

Downloadable printables that are included:

  • Poster (8.5x11 in.) Fact and Opinion
  • Poster (8.5x11 in.) soft c and soft g word sort
  • Large decodable reader (L1) for whole group
  • 1-page foldable decodable reader (L1) for student use
  • Fluency spinner game worksheet
  • 3 leveled passages with phonics and close reading comprehension questions
  • Answer keys for all 3 leveled passages

This resource supports Common-core aligned rigor for first and second graders in this resource, yet includes scaffolding needed for lower-leveled readers.
