Description

This is a PowerPoint lesson I have created. I use it with my Eno board, but it can be used with any interactive whiteboard (including Smart Boards) that can open PowerPoints. I teach it for 15.2 in Houghton Mifflin, but it can be used on its own to teach students how to classify quadrilaterals. At the end of the introduction there is a game that reviews what was taught. I use it with clickers, but it can be used with index cards, by raising their hands, calling out their responses, etc. It provides a great review and the children really enjoy guessing what will be under it.
Another use for this activity is to print the slides and use them for posters for a word wall.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.
