Description

Students become easily engaged in inquiry-oriented lessons. This extensive webquest is perfect for introducing, teaching, or reviewing the method of writing a scientific explanation known as Claim, Evidence, and Reasoning. Students are led through components of a webquest: introduction, task, process, and final task. Students write a fun CER for the final task. Resources include videos and readings. Students use QR Codes or embedded links to easily access the sites. Ideal for individual, partner, or group work.

Included with this webquest is an evaluation rubric and comprehensive answer key.

Necessary materials are an online device and colored pencils.

Next Generation Science Standards include "Engaging in Argument from Evidence". Argument is the process by which evidence-based conclusions and solutions are reached. In science and engineering, reasoning and argument based evidence are essential to identifying the best explanation for a natural phenomenon or the best solution to a design problem. Scientists and engineers use argumentation to listen to, compare, and evaluate competing ideas and methods based on merits. Scientists and engineers engage in argumentation when investigating a phenomenon, testing a design solution, resolving questions about measurements, building data models, and using evidence to evaluate claims.
