Description

Do you want to show your students what the physical implications of housing segregation during the Civil Rights Era? Are they curious how housing segregation works and what it actually looks like? Using the Parable of the Polygons website, this interactive simulation helps students understand how just a little bit of bias can have a large impact on how a community looks. This activity walks students through the process of trying to make the 'polygons' happy based on their levels of bias and diversity, ending with a question about how what they have learned about can be applied to housing segregation in America's history. This lesson is best after having introduced the idea of housing segregation and utilizes statistics and graphing.

Activity includes questions about their interactions with the site, the open ended question at the end regarding housing segregation, and an answer key.
