Christmas Sentence Building Activity with Writing Pages | Writing Center

Are your students ready to write sentences, but having trouble getting started? These Christmas sentence-building activities are the perfect first step in writing sentences independently. With this hands-on Christmas writing activity, students will practice using the Christmas-themed picture cards and high-frequency words to create a sentence. 

This sentence-building activity is a hands-on approach to learning how to build a sentence, because it does not involve students actually writing, yet. Students will pick the different word cards or picture cards to create a sentence using the pocket chart. Once students are able to formulate a complete thought or say a sentence out loud, you can try this sentence-building activity with them.

This sentence-building activity works well as a whole group writing lesson first. Use it in a pocket chart and model to your students how to move around words and re-read the sentence to make sure it makes sense. Then, you can add this activity into your ELA center rotations for students to work on together! Once students are able to create their own sentences, they can use the included writing sheets to copy the sentence onto paper.
