Description

Christmas Mini Book about counting to 20 + Lesson: 3 Mini Book Templates is a fun Christmas themed counting mini book, titled "Santa's Workshop" that was designed for elementary students. The mini book explores different things that are in Santa's workshop (ie: Elves, Toys, Cookies, etc), and will having students counting the number of items in Santa's Workshop. This Christmas Counting mini book download is offered in three different templates making it ideal for split grades or to modify it for your students.

The mini book templates are:

1) Text Option: students can read and colour the corresponding picture

2) Trace and Colour: students can read, trace, and colour the corresponding picture

3) Trace and Draw: students can read, trace, and draw a picture that matches the text

* All text is written on standard primary lines with an easy to read font making it ideal for early readers and writers.

The Christmas Counting Mini book focuses on numbers 0 - 20, but you could easily adapt the booklet to meet the needs of your Math numeracy unit, aside from just focusing on numbers 0 - 20. Some ideas to adapt the Christmas Counting Mini Book include: Christmas Skip Counting (by printing 2, 4, 6 . . ., etc), Odd Numbers (by printing 1, 3, 5 ...), reduce the range of numbers (ie: only focus on the numbers 0 - 10 , etc).

You can use these mini books to: support your sight word lessons, practice reading and writing with small/large/whole class, send home to practice, sight words, add to your classroom bookshelf, a tool to assess reading comprehension, literacy centers, enrich your Christmas unit, and much more!

This Christmas counting download also includes a 3-part lesson plan, which makes for easy planning or even as an easy-to-follow plan for a supply teacher that you can throw into your Christmas Sub Tub.

How I Use Christmas Mini Book about counting to 20 + Lesson: 3 Mini Book Templates in my classroom:

Whenever I plan a unit, I always try to think of cross-curricular opportunities to connect different subject areas together. I find that mini books are a wonderful way to marry math with literacy for our early learners.

I particularly love that this Christmas Counting download is offered in three templates. This makes it particularly ideal for my split primary grades. I have taught JK/SK Kindergarten split classes, as well as SK/Grade 1 splits, and the fact that I can modify the task so my younger group is working on either the read or trace options, while the older grade is working on the trace or trace & draw options is fantastic.

This is a Christmas Counting booklet I have used over the years with different primary classes. With my younger primary classes (Kinder - Grade 1), I have printed out the mini book in it's entirety as we were focusing on numbers 0 - 20. With my older primary classes, I have used it to work on skip counting by 2's and 5's, by only printing out the pages that pertain to that skip counting rule.

After students have finished reading, writing, and drawing they are welcome to continue reading it during spare time or with a buddy. Before Christmas holidays, I send the booklets home so that they can show their parents and loved ones.
