This Christmas activity can be used for online, virtual, or distance learning.

This Christmas Figurative Language Digital Breakout includes fun activities for the middle school ELA classroom. These include:

  • sort of figurative language
  • identification of figurative language in famous excerpts
  • matching Christmas idioms to their meaning
  • and a chance for students to write their own examples

Figurative Language included:

  • simile
  • metaphor
  • alliteration

  • onomatopoeia

  • hyperbole

*Note: the last task asks students to write their own figurative language, so that section is not self-grading as the others are.*
