Set 1:

No prep activity:

Set 3:

This shared treasure is our class Christmas Cookbook that is now a treasured icon for a parent’s gift. This is a class tradition I've started over twenty years ago, that will stir your focus to making something extra special for others. Your students will love gathering a Christmas cookie recipe from home to share with others. They will be so motivated in creating their Christmas Cookie Cookbook for their own families.
This set requires minor prep time with several options:

1. Choose a plan.
2. Set up your manageable time frame.
3. Do any additional typing if so desired. (typing goes really quick-just be careful of measurements for whoever is typing it)
4. Print a complete set for each student's family. (21 students, about 27 pages)
5. Gather a complete copy of all the recipes for each family.

Option 1: Set up a “real “ looking cookbook, and copy sets for each parent as it comes. Bind (by ribbon) cookbooks together.
Option 2: Take the home recipes, and have students types them ( save or edit on-going) before printing. Student typed it, feels a big part of it.
Bonus: uniform look. Students help to assemble cookbooks at recess or during art time.
Option 3: Take the home copies, you or someone else types them to give a uniform look. You also copy them for parents.
Option 4: Type in “extra” cookie recipes for students that did not have any to include in the cookbook. Each student gets their own different and special recipe-I try to use no bake ones so that they could try them too.

Make it special:
Take a photo (with permission for photos) of each student wearing a chef’s hat. No hat, no problem: draw it to an additional photo.
Send it home in either plastic grocery bags or gallon size Ziploc bags to keep from getting dirty or torn.
