What educators are saying

My students enjoyed researching and writing about traditions in other countries. The organization kept them engaged and resulted in an attractive flipbook for them to present.

Description

Combine Christmas activities and research using this interactive and creative flipbook with for your middle school students! It's an authentic holiday research and writing experience!

What's included:

✅Printable flipbook

✅Directions

✅Printable Writing Organizer

✅Printable revising and editing checklist

✅Digital flipbook

✅Digital Writing Organizer

✅Digital revising and editing checklist

✅Digital directions for students with link to research site

✅Digital directions for teacher

First, make the flipbook and discuss the 4 types of questions inside. The questions are about the gift-bringer, foods, customs, and language.

Next, have students choose their favorite country and then place them in groups of 4. Have each student choose one of the 4 areas to research and write about.

The 5 countries on the flip book are:

Holland

Italy

France

Germany

England

Then, have the students use the included website (or others) to find the answers to their questions.

Next, help students use that information to write a paragraph by modeling with the included paragraph and paragraph frame. Have students use the included rubric to revise and edit their paragraphs before writing the final copy to be placed on a poster.

Finally, students present their posters and students fill in the rest of their flipbooks with the information from the presentations or posters. It's extra fun if you can include some festive food from each country too!

It's a great Christmas project for students to practice research and writing skills as well as cooperative learning! Your students will love making the flipbook and posters and you will love that they are engaged right up to the break!
