Christian Skits for Actors and/or Puppets Skit 2: Whatever Floats Your Boat

In a series of ten lessons, Christian Skits address science from the standpoint of Christian values. Did God really tell Noah to build an ark? Yes, he did. Could it really float and did all the animals fit in the ark? Yes, and with room left over. Dr. Rubenstein, or “Dr. R.” as he is known to young Joey, shares the science behind the ark. The skits can be presented with live actors such as the children themselves, child and parent, child and teacher/tutor, or puppets. There are only two parts (Dr. R. and Joey) and an optional line or two for Joey’s pet monkey, so the skits are manageable for the classroom or the home schooler.

Skit 2 addresses the flood and Noah’s ark. “How things float” is discussed, and experiments are offered both in the skit and as a follow-up activity. Math and science offer clues as to how we know the animals did indeed fit into the ark. Scientists’ thoughts on the ark found on Ararat are presented as well. And Noah’s own experiment with the dove is revealed.

Following the skit are activities that reinforce the lessons with both scriptural and scientific points. For example, a rainbow is discussed as light and color based on wavelength and also as a symbol of God’s promise.

The object of these lessons is to present science from a Christian standpoint, and to teach Biblical lessons from a scientific standpoint. The stories of the Bible are not myths – they are real – and it is proper and fitting that they be taught as such.
