Description
Happy Chinese New Year (begins February 19 in 2015)! Celebrate the New Year with this colorful, engaging and educational game, and at the same time, help students explore the fascinating Chinese Zodiac, one- and two-syllable animal words, text-to-rhythm relationships, beats, 4/4 meter, and simple rhythms (ta, ti-ti and rest). This may be used as a class activity or center. Please note that while this program appears to select words and rhythms randomly, these are actually sequenced carefully. (Shhh, students don't need to know.) 10 'levels' (or measure-composition activities) are included. Two links to online videos are included for use as an introduction to the legend of the Chinese Zodiac.
When the zodiac wheel spins and stops on an animal, its picture, name and rhythm will appear in one of four beat boxes. When all four beat boxes are filled, a screen appears with the complete measure students have 'composed' and animated, dancing Chinese children appear to celebrate. Use these pages for practice and/or assessment. Once children can read, chant and tap the rhythm, you may choose to invite students to help you add solfege (selecting from so, mi and la) by writing the letters in the note heads (on the board). Then sing your new composition. This is an animated PowerPoint Show, but you can still use this product even if you don't have PowerPoint by downloading the Power Point Viewer
