Description
This painting art lesson has students create an original painting inspired by the Chinese ink paintings. Students will view and critique examples of Chinese ink paintings and use common subject matter and similar brushstrokes to create thier own painting. This is a perfect lesson to celebrate Lunar New Year or Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month or any time of the year. Students will learn how to use the simplicity of the brush strokes to create an asymmetrical composition with positive and negative space. Students will also create a variety of values in their painting, using varying amounts of diluted ink. This art lesson plan includes: PowerPoint slides and/or PDF slides with objectives, standards, vocabulary (composition, positive space, negative space, asymmetrical balance, and value), examples of Chinese ink paintings, art critique, 4 mini video tutorials for students to follow & practice, step-by-step directions/ handout, reflection questions and printable rubric.
