My students LOVED this lesson. We read the book, they kept the steady beat, we did some call and response, and they loved how boom was a quarter note and chicka were eighth notes!

Description

This year, I am looking trying to add more children's books into my elementary music lessons. This one was a huge hit with my kindergarten and first grade classes! This lesson is based off of the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin Jr. It includes singing, beat, rhythm, coloring, reading, and playing instruments! What could be better?

I love this lesson so much that I decided to make sure we can use it during distance learning! So this is a Google Slides version of the activity.

Here is the original version that I use in class (complete with a lesson plan, powerpoint, manipulatives, and worksheets).

This is a Google Slides activity. Students will do it in EDIT mode-- this is an activity that they can turn in. It has a slide for students to practice keeping the steady beat. Then it has some of the most frequent parts of the book for students to drag and drop the rhythms that match them. (So "chicka chicka boom boom" would be ti-ti ti-ti ta ta.)

The rhythms included are quarter and eighth notes-- perfect for kindergarten, first grade, or review in second grade.

In this product, you get both the stick notation AND the regular notation. There are two different presentations included in the folder that you get.

Answer keys are included-- if you do not want students to be able to access the answer keys, you will need to delete them!

Includes:

  • 2 Google Slides activities (one in stick notation and one in regular notation) for students to practice quarter and eighth note rhythms with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
  • Answer keys are included
