This was a short unit that I used at the beginning of a long term teaching position, geared towards building community. It was easy to understand and helped cover some issues that were happening in class.
I had to include this resource when tattling starts in the classroom. Even 3rd and 4th grades need to be reminded the difference between tattling and telling.
Description
Looking for a way to help children follow the rules? Need to curb tattling in a healthy way? Hoping to get your kids to use their words more?
These citizenship lessons are designed to support your success in those areas! :)
Lesson 1: Following the Rules
Use anchor charts I've provided to lead a discussion on rules in the classroom. (SL.1; SL.3)
Lesson 2: Tattling & Telling
Use a video clip to discuss the differences between tattling and telling. Use anchor charts and role playing to help students practice scenarios in which something could be considered tattling or telling.(SL.2)
Lesson 3: Bug and Wish
Use this lesson to help students gain independence with talking to others about things that bother them. Use the hands on tools and role playing cards for practice. (SL.6)
There are writing extensions to deepen the learning and also a fun craft to do at the end of the unit. I start every year with this tool and it's been such a wonderful help to setting up my classroom community.

Students will continue to explore how to use their words with their friends to diffuse conflict. Tons more role playing activities to practice this skill!
