Cell Organelles Memory Matching Game : City Analogy Structure and Function

This matching card game uses the typical cell city analogies and can be used for retrieval practice of the cell organelles' functions. Drawings of the cell organelles and their corresponding city analogies make these a fun, visual game! An optional printable graphic is included if students need to learn the city analogies for the organelles and familiarize themselves with the drawings.

Print as many sets as you need for 2 or 3 students to play the game. Print the card pages back-to-back on colored paper or card stock. Laminate if desired. Put sets in sandwich bags.

To Play: In pairs or trios, students make a grid of all the cards face-down. There will be 26 cards total. Then, taking turns, the players choose two cards to flip over. The goal is to flip the organelle and its matching city analogy. If the two flipped cards are not matches, they get flipped back over and it’s the next person’s turn. If the two flipped cards match (in organelle and analogy), that player keeps the two cards and gets another turn. The winner holds the most cards when all of the cards have been flipped.
