What educators are saying

This was a very authentic way for students to remember parts of the cell and their functions. They were very engaged and had fun with it.
Loved how easy this product was to use. My students were so creative and really enjoyed this project. Will use again!

Description

Science Distance Learning | Cell Organelle Project for Google Classroom

In many ways, a cell can be compared to a city. A cell contains different parts that each serve a function. A city is also made of different departments, each part helps the city run. In this project, students will create their own analogy for a cell. They can compare a cell to many different things such as a school, an amusement park, a baseball game, or anything else they can imagine. Full creativity and student choice will have students engaged.

And best of all, this activity is 100% paperless and self-contained! I have included a scaffolding worksheet, direction page, and rubric which sets clear guidelines. Teachers, all you need to do is download and share the Google™ slides with your students.

To further understand what is included, please read below.

Included

Student Direction Page - sets clear guidelines

Organelle Reference Sheet - defines organelle functions

Analogy Practice Worksheet - Students practice using analogies by comparing the cell to a city. They will match the function of the organelle with the part of the city.

Analogy Templates - for the cell and 11 organelles

Key for Practice Worksheet

Completed examples for two slides

Rubric

All pages are editable - If you want to change the documents, do so prior to sharing the Google™ Slides with your students.

NGSSMS-LS1-2
Develop and use a model to describe the function of a cell as a whole and ways the parts of cells contribute to the function. Emphasis is on the cell functioning as a whole system and the primary role of identified parts of the cell, specifically the nucleus, chloroplasts, mitochondria, cell membrane, and cell wall. Assessment of organelle structure/function relationships is limited to the cell wall and cell membrane. Assessment of the function of the other organelles is limited to their relationship to the whole cell. Assessment does not include the biochemical function of cells or cell parts.
