Cartogram | SS Project

Social Studies Cartogram Project
Appropriate for grades 5-8 & Homeschool

PURPOSE:
This project is an in-depth study using statistics and looking at how we represent that data within different types of maps. This projects focuses specifically on the cartogram. Within this project, you students will be able to create a specific type of cartogram by themselves!

STORY:
The atlases in my first classroom had some really cool cartograms on population and poverty that my students were interested in. I then decided that the students could do their own research and represent data on their own cartogram.

POSSIBLE EXTENSIONS:
These projects work really well for class presentations. Alternatively, you could practice map reading skills by setting up all the cartograms and developing a short quiz on the student’s finished products.

Besides this file, you may require:
     ☆More cartogram examples from the internet
     ☆Optionally your own cartogram example (I already have one included)
