Description
Let your students explore 6 different musical careers by completing and presenting a project. Included careers are:
- DJ
- Composer
- Music Therapist
- Music Producer
- Music Teacher
- Performer
Directions and templates are included to help students come up with a final product. Here is an idea of what each career will have to do:
- DJ: Create a playlist based on an event you are given (birthday party, Christmas party, graduation, school dance, sports store opening and wedding are included).
- **A "research packet" is included with song suggestions for each event if you do not want your students using the internet to look for songs
- Composer: write a jingle, a theme song for a tv character, a piece/song about a storm, or a piece/song of your choice.
- Music Therapist: Present a session about how to calm down through music, how emotions connect to music, music and memorization, or music's positive impact.
- Music Producer: Work with a performer on their song selection and stage presence, create a marketing campaign to draw a crowd to the performance.
- Music Teacher: Design and teach a lesson about a music topic of your choice.
- Performer: Choose the music for your performance, rehearse for the performance using a checklist, add "special effects," and perform for the class.
Each career has a 3-4 page packet guiding them through the project.
Before completing this project, I introduce the careers with this presentation and hold a job fair where students apply for their job of choice.
It takes my students about 2 class periods to work through the packet and get their projects ready to present, then one class period to go through presentations. They do finish at different times, so I let them present as they finish.
