    Description

This product is a bundle filled with career activities for high school students. This product covers S.M.A.R.T. Goals, Cover Letters, Interviews, Career Research, Career Report and Presentation. This product contains engaging materials to help students plan for life after high school.

***Note to buyer: This resource is for GENERAL career education. Please check out the Business Career Bundle if you would prefer resources geared towards business education. I use these resources in my Personal Finance course because I want them to be able to research the career they are interested in.

Check out each product individually, but save $$$ by purchasing this bundle! The products included in the bundle are:

Financial Goals Lesson Plan (PPT + Digital Vision Board Project + SMART Goals)

    Career Research Internet Activity

    Interview Role Play Scenarios

    Cover Letter Assignment

Career Research Outline, Report, and Presentation

SMART Goals: In this project students will create a digital vision board, write a short-term, mid-term, and long-term S.M.A.R.T. goal, and identify 3 influencing factors for each goal. A grading rubric based on 55 points is provided for assessing student work. The file also gives a sample goal and 3 factors that could influence to help guide students in their goal creation.

    Included in this product:

    • Vision Board & SMART Goals Project Instructions (PDF)
    • Vision Board & SMART Goals Project (in Google Slides™)
    • Vision Board Example (PDF)
    • Vision Board & SMART Goals Project Grading Rubric (PDF and in Google Sheets™ )

Note to teacher: This project is included in two formats to allow you flexibility. The first version is a PDF with project instructions. Students will then use the programs of their (or your) choice to complete the project. For example, the vision board could be created in Canva™ or Google Slides™ and the goals could be written in Microsoft Word™ or Google Docs™. The second version is in Google Slides™ and allows students to add text in the text boxes or tables provided. Content requirements are provided as the background for each slide. For this reason, you cannot edit the content requirements. A preview of the Google Slides™ version is pictured in the cover image.

I like to do this project at the beginning of the semester to help me get to know my students. It's also a great project to help students visualize the future. Students then create goals that help them accomplish their dreams.

Career Research Internet Activity: Integrate careers into any curriculum with this research project. In this assignment students will take an career aptitude survey, reflect on their findings, identify careers to research, research these careers with the Internet, reflect on their career research, explore job openings for the career select, answer application based questions, and write a short-term, mid-term, and long-term goal to help them accomplish their chosen profession.

Reflection and application questions focus on: relating survey results to personal strengths and weaknesses, hours of work required, work schedule, work-life balance, interests and aptitudes, how postsecondary education or training supports career and earning goals, relocation, admission requirements and costs associated with education/ training needed for the career, benefits of the education/ training, entry level positions within the career field, and starting salary

    Included in this product:

    • Digital Career Research Project (in Google Slides™)
    • Career Research Project Grading Rubric (in this PDF and in Google Sheets™ )

I like to use this assignment with my Personal Finance class, but it could be used with any curriculum. I enjoy doing this project the first week of the course to help me get to know my students and their interests. This activity is best suited for circumstances when you want student interests to guide career research.

This project requires no prep and is ready to integrate into your curriculum. This project is a digital project in Google Slides™ and allows students to add text in the text boxes or tables provided. Content requirements are provided as the background for each slide. For this reason, you cannot edit the content requirements.

Interview Role Play Scenarios: This product contains 5 role-play scenario task cards and notes to the teacher. This activity provides scenarios for students to act out when covering interviews and careers. Ask for 5 student volunteers. You will have one interviewer and four interviewees. One of the four interviewees should be a “good” interview and three of the four interviewees are “bad” interviews.

    a. Have students act out scenarios provided.

    b. After each student’s role-play, discuss strengths and weaknesses of the interview.

Cover Letter Assignment: This product includes brief assignment instruction, a sample student cover letter, and a rubric for grading the project. The assignment instructions provide three different jobs students can choose from to apply to and a list of required elements for the cover letter. I like to have students write a cover letter for a job they could currently obtain so that they could tweak the cover letter for a job they may really want to apply for. The assignment instructions are in written in Microsoft PowerPoint so you can easily change the jobs for your area.

Career Research Outline, Report, and Presentation: This product contains detailed instructions for conducting career research, writing an outline, rough draft, final draft, and creating a presentation. This product also contains a 200-point rubric for grading student work. Students take an interest inventory to help them select a career of interest. Students then write an outline, rough draft, final draft, and create a PowerPoint Presentation on the career they select.

This bundle pairs well with the project You're the Hiring Manager! (Writing Job Descriptions and Interview Questions) which can be purchased separately by clicking the link or is included in the Food Truck Business Simulation Semester Project Bundle.
