Candy Hearts Valentine's Day Math Lab - Grades 3 - 5

This is a super-sweet math lab to do with your students for Valentine's Day! All you need is candy hearts to complete this lab. Because I know there are a lot of different brands of candy hearts out there, I made this as generic as possible to best fit whatever you can find on sale.

The lab includes 2 parts: In the first part, students analyze their own candy hearts, estimating, finding an actual count, filling out a data table, and finding the probability. Students then have to eat some of the candy hearts and re-calculate the new probability of choosing each color. The second part of the lab requires students to share their data with another student and compare how many of each color they had.

I do this lab on Valentine's Day before our classroom party. That way, student are having fun but we aren't wasting valuable class time! :)
