Canadian Municipal Government Play or Readers' Theatre

This Canadian Municipal Government Play or Readers’ Theatre: can serve as an introduction to our system of local government. Or, if you teach in Ontario, it can serve as a quick overview of our political system before plunging into the new grade 5 Social Studies’ Inquiry-based research expectations.

This 6 character skit, for grades 5-8, explores the Municipal government and their leaders, various services and the town hall. The props are easily accessible and the humour will appeal to the students.

When I tested this out on my 5/6 class and they read through it the first time, I was heartened to hear laughter rippling around the room. This is a fun way to discuss our government. See if you don’t enjoy it, too!
