Teaching students to self-regulate their behavior and mindfulness has never been more important. With the demands of standardized testing and the rigor of the Common Core to name a few, do you find yourself losing valuable instructional time due to behavior concerns in your students? I've been there too. When I began incorporating a stuffed animal that I call a classroom pet, into the curriculum it was a game changer. The "class pet" is in every way treated like a real animal and students value the responsibility, love, care, and companionship that a pet (even it being a stuffed animal) offers them.
