Description

Most information on the California Missions is too detailed, difficult or overwhelming for 4th graders. Our Mission Overview Text is engaging for kids and works as a companion for individual mission projects. This flexible but comprehensive unit works for shorter time frames and includes all necessary background information, a writing assignment based on the text, and a visual arts component suitable for classroom display.

Topics covered: Purpose of California missions, construction and locations, community structure and daily life, impact on the California Native American population and their demise.

Extras: The foil "stained glass" mission art project comes in two skill-levels. Student-created "Mission Times" newspaper page can be glued to the back of the artwork for a project that looks great from both sides!

We've just added an auto-graded assessment for this unit in our store! The 30-question multiple choice quiz is text-based and has a few visual clues for eagle-eyed students. Click on the link: California Missions Google Quiz Editable by Thank a Teacher | TpT (teacherspayteachers.com)
