What educators are saying

I've used your materials before, mainly with 5th and 6th grade, but I tried this this year with my 4/5 combo and wasn't disappointed! The resource is challenging, but also got them talking.
Such a great resource. Lengthy and covered many aspects of the Gold Rush. Students completed with a sub.

Description

In this California Gold Rush and Westward Expansion student stations activity, students are introduced to the entirety of the 1849 California Gold Rush. Students learn about the creation of the Gold Rush, who was involved, how people traveled, the struggles they faced, the laws of supply and demand, the cultures that thrived (and those who suffered), and how the population of the region surged!

Students are guided through this exploration with primary source documents, secondary source texts, a variety of images, graphs, and charts! Each section of this exploration concludes with a page (4-8 questions) of very focused, higher-level thinking questions that force students to go back into their text to justify their answers. Plus, an optional shortened question version (my favorite) is included to lessen the load considerably!

This resource includes a paper in-class version and a 1:1 Google compatible version to be used in conjunction with Google Classroom. Just follow the included instructions for how to access the Google version, then share the resource through Google or assign via Google Classroom. This will allow students to type directly into the document!

Enjoy!

This Manifest Destiny and Westward Expansion lesson is included as part of the Westward Expansion and Manifest Destiny Unit Bundle!
